Man Having Botox Treatment At Beauty Clinic

Repeated use of your facial muscles to smile, laugh, frown, or look surprised over time causes permanent creases in the skin of the face, particularly around the eyes and in the forehead and frown area. This can create a tired and stressed appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injections using botulinum toxin are one of the best known and popular anti-ageing treatments and can easily improve the look of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines.

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is actually one of the brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A that is used in aesthetic medicine. It uses the toxin produced by the bacteria responsible for botulism in food poisoning. However, the amount of toxin used is minimal and generally well tolerated in clinical trials. The toxin temporarily weakens the muscles responsible for developing facial expression lines caused by muscle activity.

Is it safe to have Botox?

Botox has been used in facial aesthetics for over 20 years. It is a safe technique that is also very effective with minimal side effects. Some patients experience minor bruising in the areas where injections have been given. Bruising only lasts a few days and otherwise there are few side effects.

How is Botox administered and what can I expect when having Botox?

Botox is injected directly into muscles that cause the wrinkles. It is a quick and pain free procedure. Once the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkles will dissipate and over time the skin looks more smooth and youthful. Typically the technique of administering Botox involves giving 2-8 small injections per area chosen to be treated. Most patients experience some small level of discomfort but it is brief and the overall treatment time is usually around 10-15 minutes making it great to fit in around your life.

How long will Botox last?

Contrary to popular belief, the effects of Botox are not actually immediate and it usually takes between 3-7 days for effects to set in, and the maximum effect should be most noticeable around 14 days after the treatment.

Botox usually lasts between 3 and 6 months, after this period Dr Hanson recommends regular and repeated treatments continue and maintain the wrinkle free effects. Patients do find that with repeat treatments the effects last longer, meaning less Botox treatments are needed over time.

What wrinkles can Botox help on my face?

The usual areas to be treated with Botox include- the frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines/wrinkles and crow’s feet outside the corners of your eyes. Dr Hanson treats all his patients personally, providing them with a consultation listening and discussing their desired results and personal expectations and needs.
